Text as Textile
#textastextile #poetry15
As a way to stop doomscrolling (or at least, try to stop doomscrolling), I’ve been returning to reading physical books. To be fair, I never stopped, but lately, my time has been spent drawn to screens and their nightmares. This keeps happening even when I read on my Kindle or on the phone through the Libby app, so I’ve needed to work on letting myself be guided by paper and ink. Most days, I’m not that successful at avoiding being sucked into the vortex, but when I am able to pull away and sit with the printed page, I feel calmer—and more creative. And so I’m continuing to work on this, as I am not as disciplined about it as I wish I could be.
This month, I invite you to turn to a book of your choice on your shelf or nightstand. Flip through it, notice how the words look. Do they blur? Do they look like little patterns on a textile? How might you weave ideas about a prior text into meditations on your own life? Maybe this is a month for a prose poem!
